Thanks for sharing, I’ve also been struggling with some of the same concerns, what does normal even really mean.
I have a 13 and 14 year old and I’ve been encouraging them for the last few years, especially before the pandemic to start learning and doing the things they want to do with their life now, college is no longer the gateway to success, creativity and effort are.
If they were to find their passions before graduating high school I would encourage them and guide them to becoming entrepreneurs rather than enter into an education system that was already broken before the pandemic.
There is no new normal, or any normal for that matter, as you said, it’s up to the protagonist to decide what to do. Or you can do what many of us parents did and follow someone else’s dreams into our 30s and 40s and start over with our passions then, if we can still remember them, I haven’t been able to lately, so discovery has been one of my biggest active processes at the moment.
